Kaikado
The Kaikado company was founded in 1875, when Japan opened its doors to the world and the tin plates began to arrive from England. Kaikado founder, Kiyosuke Yagi, saw in this material an opportunity for innovation and was the first to invent the Chazutsu, a simple and functional tea jar. Over time, Chazutsu has become popular throughout the country and abroad, and the company today continues to produce it with traditional techniques, in the same shop in the center of Kyoto. The Chazutsu is made in three variants: tin, copper and brass. The tea jars are made by craftsmen with at least 10 years of experience, and are used up to 130 steps to achieve the perfect shape and the hermetic seal. This product is designed to be used forever and to change with time; the metal, in fact, is not treated in order to make the surface changes over time and the aging process can be slowly appreciated. Today the company is led by Takahiro Yagi, the sixth generation, who has expanded the offer and, while maintaining the traditional offer, Kaikado has been able to adapt its product for new uses, as well as starting collaborations with international designers.
